Kanye West, who has been more media fixture than musician in recent years, was finally rewarded for his talent on Wednesday when he was nominated for five of the 68 Grammy Awards that will be awarded at the 2019 ceremony. Along with West, Taylor Swift, Drake, Alessia Cara, and Childish Gambino all garnered nominations in a variety of categories.
Swift was particularly notable as the only artist to have been nominated in both the “Song of the Year” and “Record of the Year” categories for her hit single “Look What You Made Me Do.” West, who has not released an album since 2016’s “Ye,” was nominated for “The Dreamer, The Believer,” “Ultralight Beam,” “SICKO MODE,” and “XTCY.” Despite their staggering number of nominations, both West and Swift, who has been estranged from her fans for some time now, were passed over in the “Best Rap Album” category. West was widely expected to be nominated for his album “Ye,” but his collaboration with Frank Ocean (“Lemonade”) or Drake (“Scorpion”) were much more likely nominees.
