Brees named Favre of the Phunny Phones in announcement by Saints

Brett Favre is a member of the exclusive five-time most valuable player club, so New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees can get a little bragging rights on someone of his own. At least he can make a few bucks.

As per ESPN’s Darren Rovell, Brees is set to be the “Favre of the Big Easy” as his Super Bowl-winning franchise names him its “Favre of the Phunny Phones” for its Thanksgiving game against the Philadelphia Eagles.

“Every year we try to put on a spectacular night for our fans and we’re thrilled to recognize Drew Brees as one of the Phunny Phones,” Saints general manager Mickey Loomis said. “For his 20th anniversary with our franchise, this will be a perfect way to commemorate Drew’s overall excellence and distinguished career.”

Rovell adds that Brees said it was “an honor” to be chosen.

“The Saints can be proud of what we accomplished over the years,” Brees told ESPN. “It was always special for me to look forward to the Thanksgiving games when the guys that you grew up with were going to have home games. All those memories. A lot of those games are special.”

Brees is set to throw a touchdown pass for the 24th time in 2018, tying Peyton Manning for the fourth-most in NFL history.

The ageless Favre, who came into the league with the Minnesota Vikings in 1991, is also coming up on his No. 25.
